Communications Officer

Sharize Odongo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations (Honors) with a minor in Criminal Justice from the United States International University-Africa. Currently undertaking a Master’s in Environmental Policy at the University of Nairobi, her academic journey has highlighted to her the vital connection between environmental stewardship and diplomacy. Sharize also has several certifications including Commonwealth Open-Source Leaders 2019 and British Council Future Leaders Connect 2019 Finalist.

Prior to joining the Secretariat, she worked for The Assessment Capacities Project (ACAPS) hosted by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), African Union-Office of the Youth Envoy (AU-OYE), Royal Media Services-Citizen Tv and Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) Morocco as a Communications and Programs Professional. In these roles, she has actively been involved in developing and executing communication strategies, managing media relations, creating engaging content and raising awareness in international forums across the globe. 

As the Communications Officer at the Secretariat of the Convention, Sharize utilizes her expertise and unwavering passion to deliver comprehensive communications support and execute assigned activities and tasks with the objective of enhancing public awareness about wetlands and the Convention.
