Handbook on Best Practices for the Design and Operation of Wetland Education Centres

Handbook on Best Practices for the Design and Operation of Wetland Education Centres

5 June 2014

The Ramsar Convention strongly encourages the establishment of education centres at Ramsar Sites and other wetlands as they are important places for learning and training about wetlands.

In order to provide advice on the design and management of wetland centres to Ramsar Contracting Parties and other partners, the Ramsar Secretariat cooperated with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea and the Environmental Ecosystem Research Foundation (ERF), an independent not-for-profit organization based in Seoul (R.O. Korea), to produce the Handbook on Best Practices for the Design and Operation of Wetland Education Centres.

During an international workshop in November 2013 in the Republic of Korea, sponsored by Seosan City and organized by ERF and the Ramsar Secretariat, partners started collecting and discussing information for the Handbook. The Ministry of Environment (R.O. Korea) generously sponsored its production and translation into Korean language.

We thank the many organizations and experts who volunteered their time and contributed to the Handbook. We hope that it will be a useful resource for those who are planning to set up a wetland education centre and for those who are already managing one.
