Colombia has designated two new Wetlands of International Importance: the first urban High Andean wetland complex in Latin America to be designated; and a complex with a high level of endemism.
The United States of America has designated the United States side of the Niagara River Corridor, iconic for its world-renowned waterfalls, as its 40th Wetland of International Importance.
Mayors and officials of 16 Wetland Cities from seven (7) countries formally convened for the first time on 23-25 October 2019 in Suncheon City, Republic of Korea for the “Inaugural Roundtable of Wetland City Mayors” organized by the Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) and hosted by the Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea, and the Suncheon City Government.
Benin has significantly increased the area of two Wetlands of International Importance. Together they now cover the entire coast of Benin, forming a vast and important complex of wetlands.
On September 23 – 25 the new Wetlands City Accreditation Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) met in Suncheon City, Republic of Korea to conduct a review of progress on implementation and financing.
