Signature of COP12 Memorandum of Understanding

During his recent visit to Uruguay, Christopher Briggs, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands, signed the Memorandum of Understanding for COP12 with Mr Luis Porto, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr Francisco Beltrame, Minister of Housing, Land Planning, and Environment.

As part of the visit the Secretary General and the Senior Advisor for the Americas had the opportunity to visit the COP12 venue in Punta del Este and to discuss other issues related to logistics and organization.

The Minister of Environment informed them about the progress in the process of removing the Bañados del Este Ramsar site from the Montreux Record. Mr Briggs and Ms Rivera also met representatives of UNDP, UNESCO and FAO in view of strengthening collaboration and Mr Briggs gave a presentation about wetlands and agriculture to celebrate World Wetlands Day.
