MedWet launches its Framework for Action 2016-2030 “Wetlands for Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean Region”.

26 Agosto 2016

MedWet Framework for Action 2016-2030 “Wetlands for Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean Region” was adopted at the 12th Meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee on the 11th February 2016 in Paris, France.

The Framework follows the three Strategic Goals and one Implementation Goal of the 4th Strategic Plan 2016 – 2024 of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. For each goal, the Framework proposes a series of actions aimed at achieving the 18 targets foreseen in the Ramsar Strategic Plan, plus two additional targets added to respond to specific Mediterranean conditions.

This Framework for Action is also designed as an early contribution to achieving some of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals 2016–2030 (SDGs) through a series of concrete actions for the conservation of wetlands and the sustainable use of their resources in the Mediterranean region.

Under this premise, MedWet has studied and created a brand new info-graphic to show how its four MedWet Framework Goals would help to achieve the SDGs, the Aïchi Targets (Convention on Biological Diversity) and the goals of the  Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development 2016 – 2030 (Barcelona Convention). With this tool, MedWet seeks to ensure the correct understanding of the Framework for Action and the links among the most important global processes related to environment and development.

Creating synergies among the different processes in the Mediterranean should allow us to work together with the same mission: protect all the Mediterranean’s ecosystems, services and biodiversity while contributing to the well-being of human populations.
