Wetlands City Accreditation Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) meets in the Republic of Korea

On September 23 – 25 the new Wetlands City Accreditation Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) met in Suncheon City, Republic of Korea to conduct a review of progress on implementation and financing as requested by SC57 as well as to discuss how the scheme is optimally managed during the current triennium.

Under the leadership of the new co-chairs, Mr. Gert Michael Steiner from Austria and Ms. Ernita van Wyk Flynn of ICLEI the Committee established a timeline and work plan for the review of applications and the designation of accreditation at COP14. The meeting was hosted by the Ramsar Regional Center - East Asia.

Mayors of Wetland Cities accredited at COP13 have been invited to an inaugural convening in Suncheon City 23-25 October. This event where cities will share best practices and learnings on how to best preserve and wisely use wetlands is also hosted by the Ramsar Regional Center - East Asia.
