Wetlands Day in Bangladesh
NBCS
Nature
& Biodiversity Conservation Society (NBCS) celebrated World
Wetlands Day 2007 Successfully through seminar and Campaign. NBCS also
published a souvenir in the occasion of the Wetlands Day.
NBCS organized seminar
in 2nd February at National Press club in Dhaka. The seminar tropic was
the wetlands and fisheries for sustainable development. Muhammad Shariful
Islam, President of NBCS, presided over the seminar. Chairman, Transparency
International Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Mozzafor was the Chief guest.
Abdul Haque, Honorary consul of the Republic of Djuibiti in Bangladesh
and Eng. Mohammad Enamul Haque, Director General, Bangladesh Haor &
wetlands development Board were as the special guest. Dr. Muhammod Aktarul
Islam Chowdhuary, Head, Civil & Environmental Engineering department,
Shahjalal University of Science & Technology Presented a key note
paper. Two seminar papers were presented in the seminar.
The Chief guest and
special guests delivered their speech on wetlands values and its conservation,
sustainable wetlands and fishing practice. They have emphasized on public
awareness & community base fishing management. Muhammad Shariful Islam,
President NBCS presented the fish for tomorrow web animation (provided
by Ramsar Bureau) and previous two years wetlands day activities and briefed
about the prospect of fisheries resources in Bangladesh. He also declared
to initiate the wetlands awareness activities at school and college level
student and involving young generation for making wetlands conservation
group. He specially thanks to Ramsar Bureau for supporting NBCS to celebrate
WWD. Teacher, student, wetlands specialists, environmentalist, journalists,
economist and different level of people were attained the seminar. National
TV media telecast the program and news paper coverage NBCS wetlands celebration
program.
NBCS published a
beautiful & informative souvenir in the occasion of World wetlands
Day 2007.
NBCS arranged a campaign
at Buriganga River in Dhaka. NBCS members, school and college student
participate the campaign program.
