World Wetlands Day The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands

World Wetlands Day 2005 -- United Kingdom -- Scotland

Report on World Wetlands Day 2005 at Montrose Basin

The Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre in Scotland celebrated WWD 2005 with a display for visitors that ran from 24th Jan to 14th Feb (see pictures). This was composed of the poster, some of the pdf's from the ramsar.org website, the WWD 2002 screensaver and video and a modified poster (see attached) that was used to advertise the special events. Also attached is the Scottish Wildlife Trust Press release that went to local papers.

The events were a Children's Mud event on 29th Jan (which was attended by 8 children and 5 adults) and a guided walk around the freshwater marsh on 30th Jan (attended by 14 adults).

Overall, we were pleased with the response in terms of the attendance at the events and the interest in the video. It is hard to say how much of an impact any of the printed material had on the visitors as we did not conduct a survey at this time. We would certainly try again next year and we will bend our minds to how we might try to get the message across to visitors.
