Wetlands International training of trainers
Wetlands International under its Wetlands and Poverty Reduction Project (WPRP) calls for applications for four training courses, two in French and English
Wetlands International on behalf of the WPRP African Training Board announces the call for applications for the 2008 training courses focusing on a modular system of training. These training courses are part of a series of training courses being supported by the WPRP. The main modules were developed in collaboration with various partners such as Wageningen International, UNESCO-IHE, Oxfam America, Kenya Wildlife Service Institute, Foundation for Sustainable Development, Ghana Environmental Protection Agency, Uganda Wetlands Inspection Division and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre through a series of stakeholder consultations and have further undergone processes to ensure their relevance to local contexts.
Scheduled training / courses Four training courses are being offered in 2008 through designated training centre partners, namely the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (for the Anglophone training) and the Centre de Forets in Thies, Senegal (For the Francophone training). Individuals interested in participating in these courses are requested to carefully select the training course of their choice out of the four offered this year. However, in terms of response to the applications, priority will be given to the 3rd Anglophone Training course in April and the 2nd Francophone training course in late March 2008.
These trainings will be conducted by the selected Trainers from the Anglophone and Francophone Training of Trainer courses held in December 2006 and March 2007 in Naivasha, Kenya and Thies, Senegal respectively. The Trainers have been engaged in adapting the modules to local contexts and have developed a curriculum specific to the region, which is used for the delivery of the training course.
Training Objective The training aims to foster cross-sectoral dialogues and working partnerships to ensure that all sectors consider appropriate management approaches in their interaction with wetlands. Therefore this training opportunity is open to individuals in a wide range of sectors including water resources, development, gender equity, and conservation sectors from in governments, NGOs, CBOs, IGOs, Training / Research centres, Universities and other relevant agencies working at the project level, policy related fields or in programmes with direct interaction with stakeholders and communities in wetland areas.
Course duration and course work This course will be for 2 weeks.
The training will be largely interactive with some presentations followed by plenary discussions, video presentation, and field work exercises. Participants will also participate in role play exercises especially in the context of stakeholder analysis. Furthermore participants will be requested to bring relevant information materials of any wetland in their respective countries where there is a large dependence on for livelihood.
Please note - national trainings will be held in 2008 in the following countries, Senegal, Uganda, Mali/Niger, Benin, Malawi /Zambia while another two national trainings will be held in conjunction with the Nile Basin Initiative in Sudan and Ethiopia. Outstanding participants from the announced four regional training may be invited as resource persons to these national trainings.

Scholarship / tuition fee The project is offering a scholarship of 2500 USD to each selected participants, which covers tuition, accommodation, training materials, field trips and meals throughout the training.
Own costs Participants are expected to cover their own travel costs including visas where necessary for Entebbe, Uganda and Dakar, Senegal respectively- Participants will be picked up from the Airport or designated arrival point.
Selection criteria Potential candidates are advised to read the criteria stated below and apply accordingly as the selection of candidates will be based on these criteria.

Women as well as practitioners working in sectors relevant to Water, Livelihood issues, Development, Gender issues, and other relevant agencies are strongly advised to apply.
