Network on Wetlands for the South and Southeast Asian Region

Workshop on Environmental Education for Wetlands Conservation

April 9-11, 1998

Venue: Hotel Blue Star, Kathmandu, Nepal

The International Conference on Asian Wetlands was held in New Delhi/Bharatpur (India) during January 29-31, 1998. The conference was attended by participants from Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and India. During the conference it was decided to develop a Network on Wetlands for the South and Southeast Asian Region and to organise a Workshop on Environmental Education for Wetlands Conservation in Kathmandu during April 9-11, 1998. The meeting will be coordinated by IUCN-Nepal, Bangladesh Pousch, and the Indian Environmental Society.

The wetlands in the region are under great pressure and there is a need for community participation to protect them. Environmental education can play a very important role in involving local communities in developing programmes of action and policies to protect wetlands. The workshop in Kathmandu will develop an action plan and programmes in the region.

On behalf of the organisers of this workshop, I have pleasure in inviting you or your representative to participate in this workshop. As the workshop is for limited participants, we request you to kindly arrange to send the registration form and fee before March 20, 1998.

Hope to meet you in Kathmandu and with best regards,

Sincerely yours,

Dr Desh Bandhu
President
