Ramsar-supported project distinguished as Eco-Index Innovative Eco-Initiative of the Month

The Eco-Index, developed in the framework of the Rainforest Alliance's "The Race to Save the Neotropics" program, highlights exemplary conservation initiatives.

The Neotropical Centre for Wetlands Training (Centro Neotropical de Entrenamiento en Humedales - CNEH) is dedicated to the training of professional and technical staff, decision makers, and community leaders in academic institutions, governmental organizations, non-governmental and grass-roots organizations on the management and conservation of wetlands in the Neotropics, as well as in the creation of support material and public awareness on this topic.

The CNEH was kick-started in 1996 when the WWF Central American Regional Office started providing funds for its initial publications and training events. From 1998, the Centre has received additional funding from the Ramsar Convention's Wetlands for the Future Fund, which is kindly supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Dept. of State of the United States of America. Part of this information was kindly provided by The Rainforest Alliance.

Iniciativa apoyada por Ramsar recibe distinción como Eco-Iniciativa Innovadora del Mes del Eco-Index

Desarrollado en el marco del proyecto de la Alianza para los Bosques "Carrera Para Salvar al Neotrópico", el Eco-Index está dedicado a resaltar iniciativas ejemplares sobre conservación.

El Centro Neotropical de Entrenamiento en Humedales (CNEH) está dedicado al entrenamiento de profesionales, técnicos, tomadores de decisión, y líderes comunitarios de instituciones académicas, instituciones de gobierno, no gubernamentales, y de base en el manejo y conservación de los humedales del Región Neotropical, así como a generar material de apoyo y ayudar a la divulgación de información sobre este tema en la Región.

El Centro recibió el apoyo de la Oficina Regional Centroamericana de WWF en 1996 para desarrollar sus publicaciones y eventos iniciales. A partir de 1998 recibió cooperación adicional del Fondo Humedales para el Futuro de la Convención de Ramsar, el cual es a su vez apoyado por el Servicio de Pesca y Vida Silvestre y el Depto. de Estado de los Estados Unidos de América.
