Announcement: the 7th INTECOL International Wetlands Conference set for Utrecht, July 2004

THE 7th INTECOL INTERNATIONAL WETLANDS
CONFERENCE IN UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS
25 - 30 JULY 2004

In the week of 25 - 30 July 2004, Utrecht University will organize the 7th INTECOL International Wetlands Conference in the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands. This Conference will be organized under the auspices of the International Association of Ecology (INTECOL) under the title "Wetland Science and Water Resources Management".

The web site for the conference is the medium for interaction with participants. The call for abstracts has been launched and registration is now open. Please visit the web site and find the details of the programme and themes of this conference.

The Conference will have an interdisciplinary character and focus on all branches of Wetland Science, Conservation and Management. It will be a follow-up to previous INTECOL Wetland Conferences in Delhi (1980), Trebon (1984), Rennes (1988), Columbus OH (1992), Perth (1996) and Quebec (2000).

The following nine themes will form the umbrella of the conference:
Theme I. : The role of wetlands for integrated water resources management: putting theory into practice
Theme II. : Wetland science for environmental management
Theme III. : Biogeochemical functioning of wetlands
Theme IV. : Functioning of plants in the wetland environment
Theme V. : Conservation and management of wetlands
Theme VI. : Wetlands restoration and creation
Theme VII. : Wetlands and climate change worldwide
Theme VIII. : Wetlands for water quality improvement
Theme IX. : Functioning of tropical wetlands

The Conference programme will encompass a large number of invited symposia and contributed papers and posters sessions. Programs for the 32 symposia are announced in detail on the web site. There is also information on the venue, on hotel accommodation, mid-conference and post-conference excursions.
