The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands

New Memo of Collaboration with Greece for the MedWet Unit

On 3 June 2003, a new Memorandum of Collaboration was signed between the Greek Ministry for the Environment and the Ramsar Convention at the Minister's office in Athens, Greece. It provides for continuing Greece's hosting of the Convention's MedWet Coordination Unit in Athens until the end of 2005 and its support the Unit's operations with annual funding of 160,000 EUR, a relationship which began in 2001.

Mrs Vasso Papandreou, Minister of the Environment of Greece, and Mr Delmar Blasco, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands.

During his visit to Athens, the Secretary General also held discussions (below) with the staff of the MedWet Coordination Unit on several Mediterranean issues and the forthcoming MedWet/Com meeting set for Izmir, Turkey, 12-15 June 2003.
