Since 1997, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971), the United States State Department, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service have operated a special initiative, the Wetlands for the Future (WFF) training program, to benefit Latin American and Caribbean institutions and individuals through capacity building and training in the conservation and wise use of wetlands. This initiative promotes the implementation of the concept of "wise use" of wetlands through strengthening the capacity of countries to manage their wetland resources in perpetuity and contributing to integrate wetland conservation and management with the development process. All proposed activities should be in line with the principles, recommendations and guidelines of the Ramsar Convention. The sponsors of Wetlands for the Future wish to establish partnerships with training institutions, catalyze wetland training activities currently underway or planned within the region, or complement existing training and education initiatives with wetland-related instruction. |
Desde 1997, la
Secretaría de la Convención sobre los Humedales (Ramsar,
Irán, 1971), el Departamento de Estado de los EE.UU. y el Servicio
de Pesca y Vida Silvestre de los EE.UU. han venido operando la iniciativa
de formación Fondo Humedales para el
Futuro (FHF) para el hemisferio occidental, con el fin de
beneficiar a instituciones e individuos latinoamericanos y del Caribe
a través de la capacitación y el entrenamiento en conservación
de humedales. Esta actividad promueve el concepto de “uso racional”
de los humedales, fortaleciendo la capacidad de los países de
manejar a perpetuidad los recursos de sus humedales y contribuyendo
a integrar la conservación y el manejo de los mismos en el proceso
de desarrollo. Todas las actividades propuestas han de concordar con
los principios, las recomendaciones y los lineamientos de la Convención
de Ramsar.
La iniciativa del Fondo Humedales para el Futuro tiene por objeto catalizar las actividades de formación respecto de los humedales, en curso o previstas en la región, o complementar las iniciativas existentes de formación y educación relacionada con humedales. |

The deadline for applications for the next round is 30 September 2008. The deadline for submissions of draft proposals for the WFF advisory service is 31 August 2008. |

US Government has requested the Secretariat to not fund any projects in
countries with substantive arrears in their payment of contributions to
the Secretariat and/or that are several years in arrears. To find out
if your country is in this list please contact the Secretariat before
preparing a project proposal (americas@ramsar.org).
