Mila is a graduate of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala where she earned a B.A. in Botany and Forestry. While studying for an M.S. in Environmental Studies at the same university, Mila worked as a teacher of Math and Science to 4th - 9th graders. Most recently Mila was in Washington, D.C., working as an environmental consultant for the Organization of American States, Department of Sustainable Development. Before that she gained experience in working with GIS software as a researcher at the Centre for Environmental Studies GIS laboratory at her university in Guatemala.
