Adopt-a-watershed is a K-12 school-community learning experience. Using a local watershed as a living laboratory, students engage in hands-on activities, make science applicable and relevant to their lives and  weaves education with the local community, developing collaborative partnerships and reinforcing learning through community service.
Biodiversity 911  was developed for middle school students and their teachers in the USA but provides good basic materials emphasising the importance of biodiversity, suggests appropriate activities for young people in support of biodiversity conservation, provides good links to other web-based resources as well as some fun activities for younger children.
Broads Authority The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads is a unique area of water, grazing marshes, fen and woodland, and home to some of the rarest plants and creatures in the UK. It is Britain's largest protected wetland (and a Ramsar site), and, with over onemillion  visitors each year,   has had to develop innovative management plans to develop a sustainable tourism that maintains the conservation value of these man-made wetlands. Education is an important part of their work.

Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Made up of a partnership of autonomous international, regional and national institutions and networks committed to capacity building in the water sector, their web site offers a large number of online water management tools, links to resource centres and training course, as well as reference material.

The Caribbean Conservation Association (CCA) has initiated, co-sponsored, endorsed and funded a variety of regional conservation programmes, ranging from an endangered species research and conservation effort directed at the preservation of the Caribbean green turtle, the development of a vibrant outreach programme in Environmental Education and the formulation of a regional environmental education and communications strategy, to the compilation of environmental profiles for five countries within the Eastern Caribbean.
Centre for Environmental Education's mission is to ensure that the principles of sustainable development are at the heart of education policy and practice. Their members, representing 80 national organisations work towards influencing and developing public policy, enhancing the quality of professional practice and increasing the effectiveness of the education for sustainable development movement.
Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), is an inter-disciplinary network of professionals whose mission is to act as a source of advice on the environmental, economic, social and cultural factors that affect natural resources and biological diversity and to provide guidance and support towards effective policies and practices in environmental conservation and sustainable development. Includes sections on collaborative management and working with local communities in protected areas, with many useful publications available for download.
The Chilika Lake web site is packed with information about this Ramsar site - its history, biodiversity, socio-economic issues, management challenges, eco-tourism plans and much more. 
Clean up the world web site inspires communities around the world to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment. Useful web materials as well as information on their annual "clean up weekend" campaign - in 2004 over 35 million volunteers from 114 countries cleaned up around the world, perhaps the world's largest community based environmental event recorded.

Conservation Volunteers Australia organises more than 1500 week-long conservation projects across Australia each year, resulting in positive environmental outcomes, increased community participation, conservation skills and awareness. Working with volunteers from local communities, it's Australia's largest practical conservation organisation with offices in every capital city and regional centres across Australia.
Daphne was originally set up as a scientific institute in Slovenia but has expanded to become an effective nature conservation organisation with activities aimed at increasing the public's knowledge and understanding of the environment. Intersting environmental education work here.
The World Bank's Development Education Programme provides tools and resources to help teachers and students, principally at the secondary school level, study and think critically about the often complex social, economic, and environmental issues of sustainable development affecting their countries, their regions, and the world. Ducks Unlimited have developed a special section on their Web site for children and teachers - you can directly download a teacher's guide to help build a wetland curriculum and you can register as an educator and then download curriculum materials. DU has also developed a specialised resource site to help educators create engaing curriculum about wetland habitat.

Every River has Its People is a dynamic project in the Okavango Delta where a consortium of NGOs in Botswana and Namibia work to build the capacity of the Okavango basin residents to effectively participate in the planning and manage their natural resources, and to share experiences and lessons learned with other river basin communities and authorities.
Exploring Estuaries is a great Web resource aimed at young people on US Environmental Protection Agency's Web site - find out what they are, take a virtual tour or solve a mystery!
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is an NGO consisting of Member organisations representing 28 countries in Europe, as well as South Africa, Morocco, Canada, Chile and several countries in the Caribbean. FEE actively promotes and delivers education about the environment and sustainable development through a number of international programmes that involve people of all ages and nationalities through both formal and informal education. 
The Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN) helps young people in the USA make  improvements to their local watershed by offering an on-line monitoring database and community action tool to protect rivers, streams and other vital water resources in their communities. GreenCOM works with developing country community groups, schools, and government agencies in USAID countries on strategies that can produce measurable behavior change.
Groundwater Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to informing the public about one of the greatest hidden resources, groundwater. Their programmes,  publications and their Web site identify the benefits everyone receives from groundwater and the risks that threaten groundwater quality. Their aim is to make learning about groundwater fun and understandable for kids and adults alike.

Healthy Water - Healthy People is an innovative water quality education programme sponsored by Project Wet and the Hach Scientific Foundation, offers hands-on activity guides, testing kits, childrens' books and training for anyone interested in learning and teaching about contemporary water quality education topics.

H2O03the official UK site for the UN International Year of Freshwater 2003 includes: National collection of Freshwater Sites, painting and literary competitions, a Freshwater survey, and the chance to vote for your favourite freshwater site.

IGES (Institute for Global Environmental Strategies), based in Japan, focuses primarily on the Asia-Pacific region. With its policy-oriented and practical research activities (including environmental education), IGES aims to realize global-scale sustainable development of the environment through strategies and innovative policy recommendations for a broad range of national and local governments, and in the activities of private sectors, NGOs, and the public.
IRHA, the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance, was founded in 2002 in Johannesburg at the World Summit on Sustainable Development where it was given the mandate to federate the scattered harvesting rainwater movement. Now this international alliance provides an unified voice to Rainwater Harvesters around the world, disseminates and builds on its members achievements and works towards the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals.

International Rivers Network (IRN) supports local communities working to protect their rivers and watersheds. They work to halt destructive river development projects, and to encourage equitable and sustainable methods of meeting needs for water, energy and flood management.
IUCN's Wetlands and Water Resources Programme includes details of the many wetland projects past and present on wetland issues carried out by IUCN offices all over the world, weland publications, and details of their recently launched  Water and Nature Initiative,  a 5-year action plan to demonstrate how ecosystem-based management can help solve the water crisis of today.
IUCN's Education Programme in Pakistan has developed a website to raise the awareness of the broader community about environmental issues and motivate all sectors of society to make commitments to sustainable practices.  Their objective is to generate interest among students, teachers, experts and the general public alike and initiating positive behavioural change towards nature and natural resources.
LAKENET is a global network of people and organizations promoting the conservation and sustainable management of lakes.
Living Rivers employs grassroots organizing, litigation, research and campaigns that promote large-scale river restoration, habitat preservation and water user responsibility.
Marine Protected Areas of the United States has been set up to provide information and resources that assist in national dialogue and decision-making about MPAs. Of particular interest are the education pages where information and tools support the development of programming that incorporates MPA themes and messages, and fosters the development of partnerships between government and private sector educators.
MEDIES Education net provides useful material for all those involved with Environmental Education and serves as an interactive point for sharing, browsing and searching websites of relative organizations, government bodies and NGOs active in the Mediterranean region.
North American Association for Environmental Education is a network of professionals and students in North America and in 55 other countries.  Aims to provide a coherent body of information about environmental issues, recognising that this knowledge must be integrated into all aspects of the curriculum and into all types of educating institutions.

The Participation Toolkit Partnership is group of civil society (NGO) and Local government organisations from all over the world, working together to promote participatory governance in local governance. Their Web site offers information on tools which promote citizen participation, a forum for discussions and case study materiasl for further reference.

Sel De Guerande A Web site about this Ramsar site in France (in english, French and Spanish) where traditional salt exploitation has been revived, a practice that brings economic benefits to the local salters as well as the natural environment - and offers an unparalleled educational experience through the development of visitor centres.

ThamesWEB is the website of the Thames Estuary Partnership, a umbrella organisation of  local user groups, local authorities, conservation groups etc., working towards producing an appropriate balance between the competing demands on the Thames estuary through  shared information, cooperation and action. See their Education Section and their Community Action sections. Their Management Guidance document contains Principles for Action for agriculture, air quality, biodiversity, commercial use, education and awareness, fisheries, flood defence, historical and cultural resources, landscape, recreation, waste and water management. 
UNESCO's Water Portal aims to enhance access to information related to freshwater.  It provides links to the current UNESCO and UNESCO-led programmes on freshwater and serves as an interactive point for sharing, browsing and searching websites of water-related organizations, government bodies and NGOs.

UNEP's Environment Network has a a dedicated area for freshwater issues.  It provides selected information sources on key issues such as water scarcity, irrigated agriculture; goundwater, transboundary water management, urban water etc as well as other resources such as management guidelines, maps and graphics, policy and strategy documents.
Water Science for Schools from the US Geological Survey's Web site provides student-friendly information about the many aspects of water, from what it is to how we use it. This website includes pictures, data, maps, and an interactive center where you can test your water knowledge. A glossary and related links are also included.
WaterAid is an independent charity working in 15 countries in Africa and Asia, to improve their quality of life through lasting improvements to water, sanitation and hygiene using local skills and practical technologies. To help raise awareness of water-related issues among young people, it  provides information on these issues through three main areas: a game for primary school students', a list of resources for teachers and a collection of issue sheets.
World business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a coalition of 180 international companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development via the three pillars of economic growth, ecological balance and social progress. Their Web site includes many publications in PDF format that identify and define the role of the business world in promoting energy efficiency, corporate accountability and the eradication of poverty.
Wetkit is a Web-based tool kit designed to streamline access to practical tools that can help Canadians and others better understand and manage wetlands. The range of tools includes educational resources for teachers and children,  ecologically sound restoration and wetland enhancement techniques, stewardship advice,  general wetland information etc. They have a special area dedicated to Ramsar as well as many links to a range of wetland education materials.
Wetlands Action is a European Economic Interest Group with NGO status, drawing its membership from diverse organisations. Their aim is to enhance the synergy netween research and implementation capacity, facilitating the collaboration between local NGOs, international institutions, government agencies and research organisations.
Wetland Care Australia is a not-for-profit company dedicated to on-ground action to repair wetlands. Working nationally they fulfil an important functional niche between government agencies, industry, communities and landholders to enhance and conserve wetlands.
Wetland Friends of Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental voluntary organisation that encourages local people’s participation in wetland management, promotes wise use of wetland resources for sustainable livelihood, facilitates preparation and implementation of wetland management plans, and encourages research and action on wetland ecosystems, all according to the terms and spirit of the Ramsar Convention.
Wetlands Help-line is a Web site designed to help people with an interest in the conservation and wise use of wetlands to access information and seek out programs and organisations that offer expertise and help in this field. Although focused on the Oceania region it has a great deal of material relevant to other parts of the world. Check out the focus on CEPA issues.
Windows on the Wild or WOW, is an environmental education program of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The goal of WOW is to educate people of all ages about biodiversity issues and stimulate critical thinking, discussion, and informed decision making on behalf of the environment.
WLI -  the Wetland Link International programme is a global network of wetland education centres. Endorsed by Ramsar's CEPA Programme, the network members are engaged in: CEPA delivery in support of connection to nature and wetland conservation objectives; capacity building for CEPA about wetlands; and providing venues for appropriate professional training and development.
World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) is a UN-wide system Programme involving 23 UN agencies and convention secretariats. The Programme seeks to develop the tools and skills needed to achieve a better understanding of those basic processes, management practices and policies that will help improve the supply and quality of global freshwater resources.
WWFlearning provides educators and learners with an innovative communications point for global news, opinion and curriculum projects. It recognises the growing importance of education for sustainable development and the need for internet tools for learning and teaching; it provides a range of resource materials and ideas for action in schools.
WWT Learn is a web-based source of downloadable wetland lesson plans designed for KS 1-3 teachers and linked to the English National Curriculum, fact files on wetlands for everyone from government to grassroots,  Kid's Zone, and links page. 
Young Reporters for the Environment is an international network of teachers and pupils, represented in 17 countries. They produce for local population articles and photos about environmental issues. Some undertake journalistic investigations at a national level, others produce information with international content as a result of their cooperation.
