Environmental Conventions met in Montreux, Switzerland, to discuss synergies in information sharing.

From 20 to 23 June Ramsar IT Officer and Documentation Officer attended the 8th MEA Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) Steering Committee in Montreux, Switzerland. Secretary General Martha Rojas-Urrego also delivered a keynote address at the opening of the meeting.

InforMEA (www.informea.org) is a project of the MEA Information and Knowledge Management Initiative facilitated by UN Environment. The portal presents real-time information from multilateral environmental agreements including the Ramsar Convention, such as treaty texts and COP decisions (see www.informea.org/en/treaties/ramsar) and also country-focused information including contacts, national reports, national plans and Ramsar Sites (www.informea.org/en/countries).

The meeting participants agreed plans for the continued development and promotion of the portal. The Ramsar Secretariat will seek to expose an increasing range of content, while at the same time making it more accessible on the Convention’s own web site, to ensure that the widest possible community of users has the information it needs to promote the wise use of wetlands.

The InforMEA learning platform includes a popular introductory course on Ramsar, and others of relevance, such as an introduction to environmental governance.
