The IV Regional Pan-American Meeting of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) was held in Merida, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, 18-21 of September 2007.
During the IV Regional Pan-American Meeting held in Merida, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, 18-21 September, 2007, some of the most relevant issues were the declarations made by the countries to have a "Strategy for the Conservation and Wise Use of fluvial wetlands of the La Plata Basin" and the declaration for the "Conservation, Integral Management and Wise Use of Mangrove Ecosystems".Declaration of Merida for the "Strategy for the Conservation and Wise Use of fluvial wetlands of the La Plata Basin"
The representatives of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay agreed upon the formation of a Contact Group to work on the formulation of a Strategy for the Conservation and Wise Use of fluvial wetlands of the La Plata Basin. The group will be chaired by Argentina.
Declaration of Merida "Conservation, Integral Management and Wise Use of Mangrove Ecosystems"The representatives of Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela expressed their interest in creating a contact group with the objective of revising and agreeing mechanisms and tools that promote the conservation and wise use of the mangrove ecosystem. This group will be coordinated by Venezuela, with support of the Ramsar Secretariat.
