La Convención sobre los Humedales

III Reunión Regional Panamericana, noviembre 2004, México / III Panamerican Regional Meeting, November 2004, Mexico

El Gobierno de México y la Secretaría de Ramsar están organizando conjuntamente la III Reunión Regional Panamericana de la Convención de Ramsar sobre los Humedales, la cual cuenta con el generoso apoyo financiero de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México. La reunión se llevará a cabo en Mérida (Yucatán), México, del 7 al 12 de noviembre de 2004.

La Reunión será una importante oportunidad para evaluar el progreso de la implementación en las Américas del Plan Estratégico 2003-2008 de la Convención y debatir acerca de la eficacia de la misma como medio para alcanzar el desarrollo sustentable a través de la conservación y uso racional de los humedales. La Reunión se enfocará en los temas a ser tratados en la próxima Conferencia de las Partes Contratantes (COP9), que se llevará a cabo en Kampala, Uganda, del 7 al 15 de noviembre de 2005.

Se espera que todas las Partes Contratantes del Neotrópico (Centroamérica, el Caribe, y Sudamérica) y América del Norte estén presentes en la Reunión, así como representantes de las dependencias territoriales en la región. Adicionalmente, se invitará a una serie de observadores, incluyendo aquellos países del Neotrópico que todavía no son Partes Contratantes de la Convención, organizaciones intergubernamentales y no gubernamentales y las Organizaciones Internacionales Asociadas a Ramsar.

Se solicita a los delegados oficiales y los observadores invitados diligenciar la información requerida en el formulario de inscripción adjunto tan pronto como sea posible, a más tardar el 15 de septiembre. Esto permitirá preparar la reunión de manera más eficiente así como facilitar la expedición de tiquetes aéreos y visados de entrada a México.

Información adicional sobre la Reunión, incluyendo formularios para reservación de hotel, el programa actualizado, información de la excursión y otros documentos se proveerán directamente a los participantes una vez registrados.

Los idiomas de trabajo de la Reunión serán español e inglés.

III Panamerican Regional Meeting of the Convention on Wetlands, 7-12 November 2004, Mérida, Mexico

The Government of Mexico and the Ramsar Secretariat are jointly organising the III Pan-American Regional Meeting for the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, with the generous financial assistance of Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. The meeting will be held in Mérida (Yucatán), Mexico, 7-12 November 2004.

The meeting will be an important opportunity to review and debate progress of the Strategic Plan of the Convention 2003-2008, to assess its implementation in the Americas, and to reflect on the Convention's effectiveness as a means to achieve sustainable development through wetland conservation and wise use. The meeting will focus on the issues to be addressed by the 9th Conference of the Parties (COP9) to be held in Kampala, Uganda, 7-15 November 2005.

It is hoped that all Contracting Parties in Central and South America, the Caribbean and North America will be present at the Meeting, as well as representatives from dependent territories in the region. Additionally, several observers will be invited, including all countries of the region which are not yet party to the Convention, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, and the International Organisation Partners of the Ramsar Convention.

This will allow preparing the Meeting in the best possible way and facilitating the air ticket expedition and entry visa procedures. Further information about the Meeting, including a hotel reservation form, updated program, excursion briefing and other documents will be provided directly to individuals who have registered.

The working languages of the meeting will be Spanish and English.
