Subject: [Ramsar Forum] Just launched - new gateway to international site networks in the East Asian-Australasian region

Dear all, Apologies for any cross-postings. A new interactive set of maps and information links on the three international Site Networks for migratory waterbirds (shorebirds, cranes and Anatidae [ducks, geese and swans]) in the East Asian-Australasian region has been launched. Visit the site at http://www.wetlands.org/IWC/awc/waterbirdstrategy/Network.htm#map.

The Networks have been established under the Asia-Pacific Migratory Waterbird Conservation Strategy, an international cooperative initiative launched in 1996. The Strategy is supported by various resolutions of the Ramsar Convention, most recently at the Valencia Meeting through Res. VIII.37 "International cooperation on conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitats in the Asia-Pacific region"; that is available on http://ramsar.org/key_res_viii_37_e.htm. More information on the Strategy is available on http://www.wetlands.org/IWC/awc/waterbirdstrategy/default.htm.

Many sites listed in these Site Networks are also designated within other international networks. Over 60% of these sites have been listed under the Ramsar Convention. A few are listed under UNESCO's MAB Reserve Programme and World Heritage Lists. Joint listings of these important wetlands help to raise the profile of these sites to a wider audience and provide good opportunities for added synergies and cooperation to ensure better monitoring and management. Links and information to these sites are now just a click away on this new web page. Feedback and suggestions are welcomed.

With best wishes, Taej
