Ramsar River Basin Guidelines in Southeast Asia edition

Greetings to all Ramsar Forum Members,

I am pleased to announce that the South East Asia version of the Ramsar Guidelines on Integrating Wetland Conservation and Wise Use into River Basin Management has been published recently by the Global Environment Centre and is available in printed and PDF copy. These guidelines have been adapted from the Ramsar Handbook 4, which was published by the Ramsar Bureau in 2000. The 36-page illustrated South East Asia version is available in English, Indonesian, Malay, Thai and Vietnamese and includes 13 all-new case studies from the region, as well as the texts of the relevant Ramsar Resolutions. The English, Indonesian, Malay and Thai versions are presently downloadable from the RBI Portal, www.riverbasin.org, and the Vietnamese will soon be available there as well. Printed copies and CDs are free; postage and handling are free for all South East Asia countries.

Some of the 13 South East Asian case studies included in the Guidelines are:

Collaborative Management of the Red River Estuary, Vietnam
The Role of Civil Society in River Restoration: Thai Experiences
Integrated Management Plan on Peat Swamp Forest, Southern Thailand
Restoration of Chilika Lagoon, A Coastal Wetland in India
International Cooperation in River Basin Management: Mekong River Commission

In addition to this, there is a list of reference materials and useful Internet links provided at the end of the book to help practitioners locate additional materials on wetland conservation and river basin management.

The CD-ROM also provides full case studies of most of the case studies in the Guidelines, as well as the PDF originals of the nine Ramsar Handbooks (in English only) on the conservation and wise use of wetlands, 2000 edition.

Number of printed copies and CDs of all versions are limited, thus priority is given to orders from the Asia region.

Translation and production of this edition was funded by the ASEAN Regional Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (ARCBC), a joint cooperation between the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union (EU), http://www.arcbc.org.ph.
