Review of national wetland inventory in Europe - an appeal

(posted to the Ramsar Forum, 20 February 2002)

Hello Forum members,

This message may be of interest to members from Europe (and elsewhere!). It concerns a review of national wetland inventory information in Europe (being conducted under the RIZA-funded project "Pilot Study Towards a Pan- European Wetland Inventory").

I had the pleasure of again meeting many of you at the European Ramsar regional meeting in Bled, Slovenia last October, and discussing the preliminary results of this project as regards your country. [Here is a link to the abstract of our Bled presentation, providing some background: http://www.ramsar.org/mtg_reg_europe2001_3nivet_e.doc]

We thank you for all of the input and feedback we've received. We have now posted the draft "country chapters" on the web, and want to ask you one last time (sorry!) for your valuable input and commentary, if you are so-inclined.

We are trying to present as accurate and complete a picture as possible of wetland inventory in your country, and your assistance can help us achieve this in our final report due later this year.

Here is the link to the new draft Web presentation which also links to a table of European country chapters. Each outlines what we've looked at, and what we've gleaned from it. http://www.wetlands.org/inventory&/pewi/appeal.htm

Please have a look at "your" country chapter if you want, and let us know if we've missed or misinterpreted something...

Thank you again for all of the time and effort you have (already) contributed!

Best Regards

Scott Frazier & Claire Nivet
