Diplomatic notification 2002/8: Provisional national targets
Notification 2002/8
Reminder of deadline to submit "Provisional National Targets" based on the Convention's Draft Strategic Plan 2003-2008
The Bureau of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) presents its compliments and has the honour to refer to the following:
The Ramsar Bureau wishes to respectfully remind Contracting Parties of the deadline of 31 August 2002 for submission of "Provisional National Targets" for the triennium 2003-2005, based on the draft Strategic Plan 2003-2008, as requested in Diplomatic Notification 2002/5 of 10 April 2002.
It is essential for the Bureau to receive this input from Contracting Parties by the required deadline in order to prepare the draft of the Convention's Work Plan 2003-2005, which should be circulated as a Ramsar COP8 document by 15 September 2002.
The draft Strategic Plan distributed with Diplomatic Notification 2002/5 is available on the Ramsar Web Site at http://ramsar.org/cop8_docs_index_e.htm (go to COP8-DR 25) and the document entitled "Towards a Ramsar Convention Work Plan 2003-2005 - Establishing global targets from provisional national targets identified by Contracting Parties" is available at http://ramsar.org/key_dip02_05_e.htm. The latter document was also sent to the Ramsar Administrative Authority of each Contracting Party on a diskette. Additional hard and/or electronic copies of both documents can also be requested from the Ramsar Bureau.
The Bureau of the Convention on Wetlands respectfully requests that the content of the present Note be communicated to the competent national authorities and avails itself of this opportunity to renew the assurance of its highest consideration.
