Culture work presented to Standing Committee

The Ramsar Standing Committee’s 52nd meeting on 13-17 June considered a report on progress with the Convention’s work on culture.  Supported by a presentation by Mariam Ali, the report provided background on the subject for new Committee members, highlighted the growth of the Ramsar Culture Network and projects such as Rapid Cultural Inventories, while also drawing attention to the continuing need for funds.  Members were also directed to an analysis of the ways in which the Convention’s culture activities are supporting the targets in the Ramsar Strategic Plan 2016-2024.

Dave Pritchard attended the meeting together with Mariam, and it proved to be a useful opportunity for numerous individual conversations with participants. These will be followed up over the coming weeks.  Prior to the Committee itself a presentation was also given to a special meeting of Ramsar Regional Initiatives, and new avenues of cooperation with these bodies are also being explored.
