Funding for sustainable tourism (18/08/05)

Good morning everyone:

1. Here's an interesting funding possibility for those of you interested in the development of sustainable tourism.

Tourism Cares for Tomorrow is a non-profit that benefits society by preserving, conserving and promoting the responsible use of our world's natural, cultural and historic treasures and supporting education and research to help secure the positive future of travel and tourism worldwide. It was created by the merging of the National Tour Association's National Tourism Foundation and the United States Tour Operators Association's Travelers Conservation Foundation. As part of its mission, Tourism Cares for Tomorrow distributes charitable grants to worthy nonprofit organizations worldwide for conservation or preservation. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000 and will be considered for either capital improvements or appropriate programs. Deadlines are September 1 and December 1.

2. Since we are on the subject of tourism, here's another publication for your ever-expanding tourism library!

The international journal for protected area managers, 'Parks' is published three times a year by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of IUCN. In 2002 they produced a special issue on Tourism and Protected Areas. It includes an editorial as well as six papers on important aspects of managing park tourism:
