Exchange Programme in the Seychelles (05/11/04)

Dear Colleagues,

As some of you know I have been trying to promote experience transfer between Protected Areas through exchange of personnel for the last 15 years. Nature Seychelles can now offer positions for visiting wardens or rangers of up to 3 months on Cousin island Special Reserve . We will provide a living allowance, local transport, housing, work permits, on the job training (if necessary) and logistical back up. The partner organisation will have to provide an international air ticket and insurance (if relevant). We assume the visiting warden will still be paid his/her salary by the employer whilst on this program. I am attaching the Terms of Reference as well a description of the Special Reserve.

For those who are interested we would ask for a CV, and a letter of interest. If approved, we would then need two passport photos and a letter of release from their organisation. Please note approval may take up to three months after application owing to national employment and immigration procedures

Terms of Reference
Cousin Island Special Reserve
Experience Exchange Program with other Protected Areas

Post Title: Visiting Warden, Cousin island (3 months maximum)

Responsible to: Reserve Manager

Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Reserve Manager

Living Allowance: SR. 2000.00/month (about USD. 400.00)

Other benefits:
Housing and kitchen facilities, local transport, uniform (T. shirts and shorts), work permit, and logistical back-up
Not included: International air ticket or personal insurance

Job Description:

Assist in implement the management plan including:

Assisting in guiding of visitors in an informed manner.
Promote sales of goods
Conducting monitoring of turtles, seabirds, and other wildlife
Handling and operating boats and other equipment in a safe and reasonable manner.
Assisting with maintenance and cleaning of the Special Reserve and island infrastructure.
Assisting visiting scientists, volunteers, students and WildLife Clubs as required.
Taking part in workshops/meetings, education and awareness and allied activities as directed.
Any other relevant work as directed.

Work Site: Cousin Island. May be needed on another site.

Qualifications:
Experience and skills are desirable in some of the following: conservation, boat handling, guiding, English and French, mechanics, carpentry, report writing, first aid, monitoring/field studies

Other requirements:
Has to be physically fit and used to outdoor work.
Has to possess ability to work in a team on a small, isolated island.
Must have a flexible personality and ability to deal with a different culture.
