SIDS questionnaire on capacity building for ecosystem management and restoration (10/11/06)
Good morning everyone:
Here's a message from Simon Rietbergen of IUCN's Ecosystem Management Programme on the development of their programme of work in small island developing states (SIDS).
With best
wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
**************************************************************
Small island developing states (SIDS) throughout the world face unique and shared development challenges - whether environmental, economic, or social in origin - and in most cases have limited resources to address these challenges. One of the frequent concerns faced is the need for capacity development to assist in finding local solutions to tackle these concerns. Capacity building, technology transfer, and the notion of sharing knowledge and information are cited frequently in studies on Small Island Developing States, and represent important components of the Convention on Biological Diversity Programme of Work on SIDS. The present survey is intended to produce a clear articulation of the specific demand from small island developing states for capacity strengthening in ecosystem management and restoration, and of how that demand can be met most effectively.
IUCN The World Conservation Union and The Commission on Ecosystem Management, in close collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and with support from the Italian Government, are exploring ways in which key local capacity needs in these areas can be met in the most effective and equitable manner possible. But we need to hear from you. The links below provide access to an on-line questionnaire so that you may share your views and help guide this effort. The questionnaire takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and is available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
