Planning an awareness campaign - publication from Conservation International (02/10/06)
Good morning everyone:
Designing a Communication Strategy: The 4-P Workshop, published by Conservation International, is intended to help stakeholders plan an awareness campaign. The 4-P Workshop takes readers through the planning of a two-day workshop to analyse conservation problems, the potential targets, the most appropriate communication tools to reach each audience, and the development of a campaign plan taking into account the local context and resources.
Drawing on their 15 years of experience in awareness campaigning in over 20 countries, Conservation International (CI) has covered the planning process in fine detail and used selected case studies to illustrate how the methodology was used to build effective campaigns in different regions.
This is the first volume in CIs Lessons Learned series to assist campaigners in the area of conservation awareness. It is available in PDF format here http://www.conservation.org/ImageCache/CIWEB/content/downloads/4p_5fworkshop_2epdf/v1/4p_5fworkshop.pdf.
(Please be careful with this very long URL you will need to make sure you grab the whole URL since it may split over two lines depending on your email set up).
You will be interested to know that the next volume currently in preparation will be on Flagship Species Campaigns. From an email I received heres the plan: it will include background material on using flagship species (a species chosen to represent an environmental cause and engender support and awareness from the public) for communications and education, a how to section with step-by-step instructions on designing and implementing CIs approach, and illustrative case studies and references. It will also share lessons learned from CIs partnership with Rare and their Pride Campaign Method. In addition, it will focus on a broader use of flagship species to promote conservation and achieve behaviour change. The publication will be in the style of the first Lessons Learned volume, which focused on the 4-P Workshop.
I will send out information on this whenever it is available.
With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
