Showcasing grassroots activities (07/04/06)
Good morning everyone:
How can grassroots development projects showcase their activities and successes in a way that is readily understandable and can be taken in at a glance? How can indigenous and local communities compile and present their contribution to attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)? How can the importance of resource conservation projects for poverty reduction be made visible?
An innovative answer to these three questions has been found by a team of consultants and graphic artists of GeoMedia and MediaCompany, in collaboration with employees of German Technical Cooperation (GTZ, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH, the German development aid agency). Working alongside several communities where projects have been funded by German development cooperation institutions, they have produced a Poster Book, a poster toolkit, and completed posters from 12 countries, most of the latter available in at least two of four possible languages (English, French, German and Spanish). Each poster shows the 8 MDG goals and then assesses the contribution of the project to each of the goals, showcasing activities in a coherent, comparable, and easily accessible manner.
If you visit this URL http://www.geo-media.de/index_mdg.html you can view and download the Poster Book (in English and German) which tells the story of the development of the posters. Scrolling down you can view and download the poster design available in four contrasting templates which can be easily customised for different projects, as well as some guidelines in English and German. You can also view and download the 12 completed posters.
Another neat idea to add to your communications toolbox!
Best weekend wishes, Sandra Hails
