Maria Rivera, Senior Advisor for the Americas, will be in San Jose, Costa Rica from 26 to 28 February participating in the National Workshop “Wetlands and Agriculture” organized by JICA and the Ministry of Environment to celebrate World Wetlands Day. From 1 to 2 March she will be advising JICA for a project in the Laguna Olomega Ramsar Site in el Salvador.
Lew Young, Senior Regional Advisor for Asia-Oceania will be in the Republic of Korea from 23 to 27 February to attend a workshop to further develop the ‘wetland city accreditation’ mechanism that was discussed at COP11 in 2012. He will then accompany the Ramsar Secretary General to meet with the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Environment before visiting a potential Ramsar Site around Shihwa Lake.
Vainuupo Jungblut, Ramsar Officer for Oceania will be visiting the Fiji Islands from 10-13 February to participate in a stakeholders planning meeting to discuss the proposed Ramsar nomination for the Nasoata mangrove island , meet with the Fiji Department of Environment on Ramsar implementation issues and hold meetings with other partners in Suva.
Lew Young, Senior Regional Advisor for Asia-Oceania will be in Basra, Iraq from 12-17 February to hold meetings on the conservation of the Hawizeh Marsh Ramsar Site with central and local government agencies, as well as other stakholders. The site was placed on the Monteux Record in 2010 and visits will also be made to the site.
Samridhi Rijal, Assistant Advisor for Asia-Oceania, will be in Bhopal, India from 12 to 18 February to attend the “International Conference on Lakes and Wetlands” and meet with the National Focal Point and other stakeholders.
Lew Young, Senior Regional Advisor for Asia-Oceania will be in Myanmar from 31 January to 7 February to celebrate World Wetland Day at the Moeyungyi Ramsar Site and to visit Indawgyi Lake, a potential future Ramsar Site for the country.
SG Christopher Briggs and Maria Rivera, Senior Advisor for the Americas, are in Uruguay from 27 to 31 January to visit COP12 venue and discuss with the AA the final terms of the MOU. From 1 to 3 February they are in La Paz, Bolivia to celebrate World Wetlands Day.
Lew Young, Senior Regional Advisor for Asia-Oceania was on mission in the UAE from 19 to 24 January to attend the ‘International Water Summit 2014’ in Abu Dhabi. He visited the Ras Al Khor Ramsar Site and held meetings in Dubai.
Maria Rivera, Senior Advisor for the Americas and Sara Casallas, Assistant for the Americas, were in Leticia, Colombia, from the 13-14 of January for the process of designation of the Tarapoto Lake as a Wetland of International Importance and from the 15-17 of January for the WWF Freshwater Meeting.
