Les campagnes pour les zones humides sont des outils de sensibilisation extrêmement efficaces. Dans cette partie du mini-site Web, nous examinons trois types généraux de campagne des projets communautaires qui encouragent les activités pratiques dans les zones humides tout au long de lannée, des campagnes associées à un événement annuel particulier dans le calendrier des zones humides et des campagnes thématiques. Quil sagisse de campagnes de longue durée ou de campagnes dune journée chaque année, elles amènent souvent la population à visiter les zones humides locales et démontrent que la contribution de chaque citoyen compte.
Grâce aux campagnes communautaires, la population qui vit et travaille à proximité des zones humides peut être encouragée à «sapproprier» les zones humides locales. La convier à des activités pratiques dans les zones humides est tout particulièrement efficace à cet égard. Quil sagisse de surveiller la qualité de leau dans les cours deau locaux, de nettoyer des plages ou de compter des grenouilles, ces campagnes démontrent à la population locale quindividuellement et collectivement elle peut faire quelque chose pour préserver et améliorer la santé des zones humides locales. | Launched in 1995 in France by the European Rivers Network to promote clean rivers, this campaign is now an international event including numerous actions - such as a series of transboundary swimming days on different European water basins. Educational events on the theme of water quality or river restoration are always held during these actions. |

| Ramsar's key public celebration of wetlands each year, World Wetlands Day takes place on 2 February to mark the date of the signing in 1971 of the Convention on Wetlands, in the Iranian city of Ramsar. From modest beginnings in 1997, the first WWD, when 27 countries reported at least one special activity, now more than 85 countries are usually involved and more than 250 separate activities take place in most years. | Celebrated on 29th June each year, Danube Day is an opportunity for the 81 million people in the 13 main Danube countries to celebrate a cleaner, safer river after 11 years of international collaboration to manage the river. Activities on this day also encourage peoples' involvement in deciding how the river should be used in the future. | |
| "World Rivers Day" is celebrated on September 25th each year. BC Rivers Day in western Canada is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world, attracting up to 75,000 people annually. It is used to highlight the many values of our waterways, to increase public awareness, and hopefully, to encourage the improved stewardship of rivers around the world. | |

| The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to almost 2900 beaches and marinas in 24 countries across Europe and South Africa in 2003. Owned and run by the independent non-profit organisation, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards as well as good sanitary and safety facilities at the beach/marina. The Campaign includes environmental education and information for the public, decision makers and tourism operators. | |
| The "Pennies for the Planet" campaign, now in its fourth year of operation, encourages students (and their teachers of course) to get involved in taking action to conserve threatened habitats, each year focusing on different habitats. The Web site gives solid background information on the selected areas and includes on-line activities as well as activities that can be downloaded to help teachers get their students involved.
