Additional translations of the Ramsar Handbooks for the Wise Use of Wetlands
All of the Ramsar Handbooks, like all of the Convention's official documentation, are published in the three working languages mandated by the Conference of the Parties: English, French, and Spanish. To make these materials more widely available than that, however, in some cases, with help from some Parties and organizations, it has been possible to provide selected volumes in additional languages. These additional publications have not themselves been adopted by the Conference of the Parties.
This series has been prepared by the Secretariat of the Convention following each of the meetings of the Conference of the Contracting Parties -- the latest edition in English, French, and Spanish is the 4th (© 2010), but the translations below have been made from the 3d edition (2007), which is in most cases very similar.
The guidelines on various matters have been adopted by the COP to assist those with an interest in, or directly involved with, implementation of the Convention at the international, regional, national, subnational or local levels. Each handbook brings together, subject by subject, the various relevant guidances adopted by Parties, supplemented by additional material from COP information papers, case studies and other relevant publications in order to illustrate and amplify key aspects of the guidelines. The Secretariat welcomes suggestions and offers from interested organizations for finding means to provide some of them in additional languages.
