The UNESCO Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE), Charles Sturt University and the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands signed an agreement establishing the Ramsar Chair for the "Wise Use of Wetlands" during the Budapest High Level Water Summit.
“We warmly welcome the establishment of the Ramsar Chair, a position that will strengthen the impact and information flow from wetland research and help us to carry out more useful training on wetland management ”, said the Convention’s Secretary General Christopher Briggs.

The professor, appointed to the Ramsar Chair, will collaborate with national and international organizations and experts to contribute to both UNESCO-IHE’s work and the Ramsar Convention’s mission of promoting the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
The Chair will lead teaching modules, supervise PhD and MSc students, help partner organizations develop traditional and online training, and facilitate publications relevant to wetland research and conservation.
