Translating the Ramsar movie and introductory leaflet
05/01/2010
Reported on our web site some time ago was news about a National Ramsar Conference - the first of its kind - organized by Austria from 11-12 November 2009, focusing on "the significance of wetlands for drinking water supply, climate change mitigation and biodiversity support". You can read more about the conference here http://www.ramsar.org/cda/ramsar/display/main/main.jsp?zn=ramsar&cp=1-26-45-84^24263_4000_0__ but the main purpose of this email is to draw your attention to an important event at the meeting - the launching of the German version of Ramsar's movie Wetlands: keeping our planet alive and well. Prepared by the Federal Ministry for the Environment with the support of the Austrian Federal Forests Ltd and the Ramsar Secretariat, DVD copies of the German version can be obtained directly from Gerhard Sigmund, Ramsar's National Focal Point in Austria (Gerhard.sigmund@lebensministerium.at).
You can download the Ramsar movie in English, French and Spanish on the Ramsar web site here http://www.ramsar.org/cda/ramsar/display/main/main.jsp?zn=ramsar&cp=1-25-331_4000_0__ ... If you would like a copy of these please write to Nathalie Rizzotti here at the Secretariat (rizzotti@ramsar.org) and tell her whether you would like the DVD in NTSC or PAL. If you would like to produce a version of the movie in your own language please contact Nathalie for further information.
Austria has also reproduced in German the Ramsar basic leaflet which is intended to raise awareness about the Convention, what it is, how it operates, what are the commitments of countries that become Contracting Parties to the Convention etc. This is an excellent, well-illustrated and brief introduction for anyone who is not at all familiar with the Convention. Hard copies are available in English, French and Spanish upon request from the Secretariat from Montse Riera (riera@ramsar.org). If you would like the design files to produce your own language version as Austria has done, please write to me (hails@ramsar.org).
You can see images of the Austrian video and leaflet in the attached PDF.
Wishing you and your wetlands good health in 2010, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
