World Migratory Bird Day (04/04/07)

Good afternoon everyone:

Here is a message from Bert Lenten, Executive Secretary of the UNEP/ AEWA Secretariat, on World Migratory Bird Day. The announcement and poster are not attached as suggested below but you can see them at http://www.ramsar.org/wn/w.n.wmbd2007.htm as well as at the WMBD Web site mentioned below.

Bert Lenten’s message: “As you may already know – the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (UNEP/AEWA), together with the Convention on Migratory Species (UNEP/CMS) launched the first World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) in April 2006 in Kenya. WMBD 2006 was celebrated in 46 countries worldwide. It was envisaged at the time of the launch that WMBD would be celebrated annually. I herewith have the pleasure to inform you that the second WMBD is planned to take place on the weekend of 12-13 May 2007. To make this event even more successful than last year’s, we need your support as partners in our network to spread the news.

Below you will find a short announcement and the electronic version of the WMBD 2007 poster, which we would like to kindly ask you to circulate and feature in your own electronic or print media resources a.s.a.p. Please do not hesitate to adjust the announcement to suit your communication needs and contexts and help spread the news about this years’ WMBD!

Please feel free to circulate it within your own network to help spread the message and to encourage national authorities, local communities and bird conservation-minded organisations and individuals to help celebrate WMBD in your country and around the world. To enable us to consolidate and reflect these global efforts, we are currently re-developing our central WMBD website through which WMBD 2007-related activities and events can be registered as from 1 April 2007 at www.worldmigratorybirdday.org”.

With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
