1. Watershed Stewardship Action Kit from Izaak Walton League.
The Izaak Walton League has issued its all-new, totally revised and updated Watershed Stewardship Action Kit for clean water advocates and activists. "This is a multi-faceted tool for anyone who is interested in getting involved in protecting streams and rivers in their community," said Gwyn Rowland, the League's director of watershed programs. The toolkit includes a number of fact sheets on wetlands, the Clean Water Act, and watershed action plans. It also provides background on how to develop, fund, conduct, and get publicity for watershed protection projects in local communities. 2. Swiss Re has announced its award for sustainable water management strategies.
Swiss Re, one of the world's leading reinsurers, presented the second "ReSource Award" at its Centre of Global Dialogue in Zurich, Switzerland, in April 2004. This annual competition for innovative watershed management projects carries total prize money of USD 100,000. The ReSource Award for 2004 was officially launched at the ceremony. To complement other water-related initiatives, the company launched the International ReSource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management in 2002. The award actively supports the planning, evaluation and implementation of water-related projects with the aim of promoting awareness and encouraging the efficient use of this precious resource. 3. Call for applications for Ramsar Intern/Assistant Advisor for the Asia/Pacific.
The Ramsar Secretariat is seeking applications for the position of Intern / Assistant Advisor for the Asia/Pacific, to work with the Senior Advisor on a broad range of tasks in support of the Parties from those regions. Ramsar internships are normally for a 12 month period but can be extended to 18 months, and applicants must be nationals of countries in Asia or the Pacific region. The position requires a full ability to work in English. Qualified candidates from those regions are encouraged to read the general terms of reference for Ramsar Internships
(http://www.ramsar.org/about_internships.htm) and apply by 10 August 2004, with a view to beginning on 8 November 2004.
