Looking for information ..... (09/07/07)
Good morning everyone:
Two people have written to me recently asking for information which I think members of this list may be able to help with.
1. Marna Cilliers-Hartslief writes I wish to enquire whether you can provide me with any pointers/information in terms of accessing digital photographic or video based libraries that contain information that can be used for education on wetlands, readily available for teachers and learners to download from the web.
I am representing an NGO in South Africa, the Green Vision Foundation. We have been working with Tim Hauf, international photographer, in publishing a book on the World Heritage Sites in South Africa. As a result, we have a substantial database of digital material, amongst others on wetlands (The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park in South Africa - now renamed as the Isimangaliso Wetland Park) which we intend to make available for education purposes world wide, also in the context of it being a World Heritage Site.
We are looking at avoiding duplication of effort and would wish to collaborate with suitable institutions in our endeavor to ensure that our modest contribution toward environmental education and sustainable development can be optimally utilised and can indeed be made accessible to interested parties.
Marna would appreciate any feedback from list members. Here are her contact details: Dr Marna Cilliers-Hartslief (marna@catella.co.za), Green Vision Foundation, www.greenvisionfoundation.com.
2. Korhan Cavusoglu from Turkey is looking for any information on the development of a booklet on wetlands for elementary schools. He writes: "We have the idea of starting a study aimed at elementary school children explaining importance, and functions of wetlands; most likely a booklet to be distributed at schools. I wonder whether there has been such a study that you know which we can adapt to Turkey, or can you direct me to someone who may have information on this topic."
You can contact Korhan by email at korhancavusoglu@yahoo.com.
With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
Dear Korhan,
Regarding development of booklet on wetlands for elementary school, Institute of Forestry, Pokhara has been working for preparation of educational kit on tropical forest and wetland conservation in Nepal, of which I have been working as principal author. I will be happy to make fruitful linkage with you to discuss further in it.
Very best wishes,

Dear all and Korhan,
I remember so far that Burcu Meltem Arik from Doga Dernegi prepared such a documents for kids about wetlands. So Korhan can get in touch with the environmental education people within Doga Dernegi (Damla Akyildiz) and get more information about what they prepared in the past.

And KAD (Bird Research Society) also prepared some games 2 years ago for World Wetlands Day an activity with primary schools in a local area for childrens to raise awareness on the importance of wetlands. They do have a number of games for it.
