Hong Kong Wetland Park opens today! (19/05/06)
Good morning everyone:
I recently reported on the opening of a new Ramsar Visitor Centre in Austria and today I have news of another state-of-the-art centre opening in Honk Kong. Thanks to Jackie Yip for the news and photos.
The Hong Kong Wetland Park will today unveil itself as a major eco-tourism attraction in Hong Kong. The 61-hectare Park will be officially opened today and will open to the public as from tomorrow, 20 May. Adjacent to the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site, the Park consists of re-created wetlands to compensate for the loss of wetland habitats due to development. It boasts a unique combination of a grand visitor centre and an outdoor reserve. The 10,000m2 visitor centre consists of three main galleries themed on biological, cultural and environmental aspects of wetlands. Visitors are welcome to roam about the outdoor reserve at their own pace, following trails and boardwalks, exploring the freshwater marshes, ponds, mangroves and grassland.
The Hong Kong Wetland Park aims to attract local visitors as well as overseas tourists. Exhibition display will be presented in Chinese and English, as well as Japanese in selected exhibits.
