Wetland Management Planning - a Guide for Site Managers (03/06/08)

Hello CEPA list members:

Wetland Management Planning - a Guide for Site Managers has been produced by the joint effort of WWF, the Ramsar Convention, IUCN, and Wetlands International to assist wetland site managers in the challenging task of developing and implementing wetland management plans. Based on Ramsar’s wetland management planning guidelines (Handbook 16 in the Ramsar Wise Use series), this publication also highlights the availability of other key sources of information on management planning. Its development has benefited immensely from the input of a number of editors and contributors, including members of the Convention’s Scientific and Technical Review Panel, and would never have been completed without the dedicated effort of the compiler, Archna Chatterjee of WWF-India.

It starts with a brief introduction on 10 reasons why a site manager should prepare a management plan and then gets down to the business of describing in various chapters the:

Essentials of management planning
Successful management planning (including the need to build partnerships with local communities, building trust and awareness with key stakeholders, building capacity through involvement, gaining support through incentives, and CEPA strategies)

Knowing the wetland and its values
Setting management objectives
Achieving management objectives
Closing the management loop

A number of hard copies are available from the Freshwater and Wetlands Programme, WWF-India (send an email to freshwater@wwfindia.net; achatterjee@wwfindia.net).

Also available is a full-colour PDF version with hotlinks to all the key reference materials. This is available for download here: http://assets.panda.org/downloads/wetlands_management_guide_2008.pdf (2.9MB).

With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
