Preparation of a management plan for wetlands (26/04/05)

Good morning CEPA enthusiasts:

The manual "Reviving Wetlands - Sustainable Management of Wetlands and Shallow Lakes" sets out clear steps on the preparation of a management plan for wetlands, through an inclusive participatory process involving local communities as well as the many stakeholders whose active support is vital to the successful adoption and implementation of the plan.

The present manual has been developed from the experiences in developing management plans in two sites - the wetlands of Nava and Boada in Spain, and the Nestos lakes, lagoons and wetlands in Greece - but also includes useful information from other experiences in management planning. The wetlands of Nava and the Nestos complex are both Ramsar Sites. The manual describes the contents and the process of preparing a management plan for wetlands or shallow lakes. The target group includes technicians, stakeholders and decision makers involved in management of these sites or influencing the ecosystem with their activities. The publication gives answers to questions about why and how a management plan has to be established and it is firmly built around participatory processes and effective communication.

The manual can be downloaded in PDF format here http://www.livingwetlands.org/index.php?navig=public/navig.php&cont=public/cont.php in English, German and Spanish. If you would like to receive the documents on CD (or hardcopy), please contact Udo Gattenlöhner, Global Nature Fund, International Foundation for Environment and Nature, Fritz-Reichle-Ring 4, 78315 Radolfzell, Germany (e-mail: info@globalnature.org).

Best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
