News from Wetland Link International (29/11/04)

Good morning everyone:

Two items of news from Wetland Link International (WLI). They have just launched a new 8-page booklet - "Making a Splash - the potential and practice of wetland centres" - which is available for download in PDF format from their Web site at http://www.wwtlearn.org.uk/wli2/making-a-splash.pdf. Wetland education centres are recognised by the Ramsar CEPA guidelines as focal points for global, national and local CEPA efforts and they encourage the participation of these centres in the WLI network. Please take some time to have a look at the booklet, see what the network has to offer, and encourage centres that you may be in contact with to join the network.

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (who run the WLI programme) have just won an award for the most successful education project from the British Zoo Federation. The Great Pond Safari, themed around ponds and their biodiversity, is a cross-curricular scheme of work for 8-12 year-olds that includes science, geography, history, English, maths, citizenship, drama, art and design, and information technology. It incorporates a visit to a WWT centre that features a number of active learning components each utilizing different learning methods, media, and learning styles. Read the full details about the Safari here http://www.wwtlearn.org.uk/challenge/safari-home.htm.

Best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
