Ecological networking in Europe (04/04/06)

Good morning everyone:

Below you will find a message I have received from Tamara Kutonova from IUCN's office for South-Eastern Europe. If you follow the link you will find an excellent web site offering often quite detailed information on 18 ecological networks within Europe, some national and some multinational. The aim of this web site is communication, offering systematic information on all ecological network programmes currently under development, being proposed, or ongoing, so that experts can more easily contact and exchange information with each other. For the moment this extends only to Europe, but IUCN and its partner Syzygy, a company focussed on conservation and sustainable use of natural resources based in the Netherlands, hope to make this global in the future.

When you first click on the link you may receive a message "Service temporarily unavailable" but, be patient, in a few seconds you do access the web site.

Best regards, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat

IUCN Programme Office for Central Europe and Syzygy has launched the Ecological Network Database for Central and Eastern Europe. It provides systematic information on 17 ecological networks under development in the region. A user can interrogate the database in various ways offered in a search engine. In addition, the database makes available a wide range of sources on ecological networks, including relevant documents, references and links.

On behalf of the team who were working on the database I would like to invite you to visit www.iucn-ce.org/econets/database. We hope you will find it useful and interesting. We would also appreciate if you forward this message to those concerned.

Should you have comments, please contact me directly.

Yours sincerely,

Tamara Kutonova, Project Coordinator, IUCN Programme Office for South-Eastern Europe,
