Good morning everyone:
Here's a message from Michael Trepel about an upcoming conference on ecological restoration and how you could be involved in a session entitled "Public participation - the road to successful peatland and river restoration projects".
Best regards, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat

Society for Ecological Restoration, Europe: 5th European Conference on Ecological Restoration, August 22 - 25, 2006, Greifswald Germany.
Dear colleagues,
Restoration of our environment is getting increasing attention. However, when it comes to project implementation efforts are often limited by public and private acceptance. That's why the idea to involve the public from the beginning into the decision-making process of restoration projects is currently enlightening most environmental programmes. That's why we ask the question in Session 10E at the SER Europe conference in Greifswald this year: Is public participation the road to successful peatland and river restoration projects?
And we want the answers from you. You are invited to present (i) scientific evaluations of current approaches of public participation,
(ii) case studies where you present your real experiences with public participation, (iii) excellent examples of capacity building programmes and public information (e.g. national wetland information centre, etc.). For the progress of ecological restoration, we strongly invite people involved in restoration projects to present their experiences with participation and their critical evaluation of how this process could be optimised. The conferences of the Society of Ecological Restoration are an excellent forum for information exchange between practitioners and scientists in the field of ecological restoration.
So, if you are interested in presenting your work in this session, submit as soon as possible an abstract via the conference web-page (hhtp://www.uni-greifswald.de/SER2006). If you have further questions, just contact me (mtrepel@ecology.uni-kiel.de).
Your session organisers
Tatiana Minaeva (Federal Center of Geoecological Systems, Russia) and Michael Trepel (University of Kiel, Germany)
