Greetings Everyone:
Here’s one for your bookshelves. . .
Mangroves: Soldiers of our Coasts has been produced by Mangroves For the Future (MFF) India. In 32 full-colour pages, this booklet takes young readers through pretty much everything they should know to understand mangroves and why we need them. It’s beautifully illustrated with useful sound-bites of information on what mangroves do for us, where they occur, mangrove roots and how they help the trees survive salty water, waterlogged soil, and lack of oxygen, and the diversity of animals that live within mangrove forests. Add to this simple but strong messages on mangrove losses around the world and who’s doing what to conserve mangroves (including of course MFF), as well as a useful glossary and a mangrove word game, and you have an excellent booklet for young people. Also an easy-to-read intro for much older people who know nothing about mangroves! It’s available for download from the IUCN web site here http://data.iucn.org/dbtw-wpd/edocs/2010-041.pdf (2.5MB).
