Greetings Everyone:

We recently noted the publication of our fact sheets on Wetland Ecosystem Services. Here's another publication on ecosystem services but from a very different viewpoint and with a different purpose. The Corporate Ecosystem Services Review: Guidelines for Identifying Business Risks & Opportunities Arising from Ecosystem Change has been produced by three organizations: the World Resources Institute, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Meridian Institute. Their purpose? First, to illustrate that while businesses often depend on ecosystem services to sustain their business they also often have a significant impact on these ecosystem services. Degradation of ecosystems and thus their services can pose a number of risks on how businesses perform. This publication introduces business managers to ecosystem services, illustrates that ecosystem change is both a source of business risk and opportunity, and then presents a methodology that allows businesses to develop strategies to address these risks and opportunities - managing the risks and opportunities better will be good for business and hopefully help them to become better stewards of the environment.
