Some useful articles on communicating about forests
Lamentablemente, no hay versión en español de este documento
Greetings everyone:
Arborvitae is the newsletter of IUCN’s Forest Conservation Programme. Issue 42 is focused on the International Year of Forests and in particular on communicating forest values. It includes an article by the UN Forum on Forests which joined with the Ramsar Secretariat in producing our World Wetlands Day leaflet on wetlands and forests, but also nine more articles specifically focused on communicating forest messages.
Here are just some of the titles in this issue since I think these alone will encourage you to download and delve into this publication (and if not then the cartoon on the front cover is a must see!).
What is a Forest (what do forests mean to the general public in the UK)
How to get a child to love a forest (childhood experiences in nature are on the wane and what this means for forests)
Love not loss (doom and gloom messages on biodiversity aren’t working – positive message inspire action)
Communicating biodiversity to forest owners in Estonia (moving a biodiversity strategy from informing forest owners to one of supporting specific changes in forest management)
When a spotlight is needed (looking at the strengths and weaknesses of visual communication for conservation)
Here’s the link to the PDF http://cmsdata.iucn.org/downloads/av42englishcolweb.pdf. Should soon be available in French and Spanish too.
Best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
