Leading off the joint session of the two Standing Committee Subgroups, 15 May 2002, the Secretary General leads the assembly in a welcoming song.

The combined Subgroups on COP8 and on Finance study their agenda papers and then split into their separate groups.

Confusion over the agenda.

Annette Keller, the Bureau's logistics chief, summons all the delegates and observers to the brimming glass and groaning board.

Ramsar staff members: Spyros Kouvelis (MedWet Coordinator), Alain Lambert, Mireille Katz, and Carlos Villalba dig in heartily.

The Secretary General will not be far behind, of course.

IUCN-The World Conservation Union hosts the Ramsar secretariat and lays on a fairly ample table whenever the Convention's Standing Committee, with its legendary capacities, comes calling.

The Secretary General samples everything generously.
