Ramsar Convention 40th Anniversary Celebration Video
2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the Ramsar Convention. Originally created to preserve wetlands as a vital habitat for waterfowl, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has inspired significant advances over the past 40 years. Conservation and wise use of all wetlands through local and national action and international cooperation has helped sustain the diverse socio-economic benefits that wetlands deliver to people throughout the world. In this video, Ramsar Convention Secretary General, Anada Tiéga, reminds everyone of the crucial role wetlands play in sustaining the quantity and quality of water needed now… and for future generations. Ambassador Martinelli, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office, Switzerland and Ambassador Sajjadi, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office, Islamic Republic of Iran also shared the importance of wetlands.
