Tobias Salathé, Ramsar Senior Advisor for Europe, will be in the Camargue, France 14-16 November for the 3rd annual meeting of the French Ramsar Site managers and actors, where the charta for the new Association Ramsar France will be signed by the Minister and Ramsar Secretary General Anada Tiéga, regrouping French RS managers and providing them with a new tool to work on the governance, management, promotion and other subjects related to Ramsar Sites. Tobias Salathé, Senior Advisor for Europe, will be in Strasbourg, France 10-11 October presenting Ramsar’s work to this end (with support from Monica Zavagli of the Ramsar STRP) in an expert meeting of the Berne Convention/Council of Europe on biodiversity and climate change. On 12 October he will be on the island of Mainau (Lake of Constance): making the laudatio for the Euronatur 2011 award winner who is Ramsar Standing Committee member, Goran Gugic. Tobias Salathe, Senior Advisor for Europe, will be in Astana, Kazakhstan, 20-23 September, participating in the UNECE 7th ministerial conference on the Environment for Europe “save water, grow green” focusing on sustainable management of water and water-related ecosystems and on greening the economy by mainstreaming the environment into economic development, plus a presentation at the side-event for the launch of the 2nd Assessment of transboundary rivers, lakes and groundwaters by UNECE, Finland and Slovakia. Anada Tiéga, Ramsar Secretary General, will visit the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity–CBD (16 September 2011) in Montreal, Canada and he will attend the 17th Senior Officials Meeting of the United Nations Environment Management Group (EMG), 19 September 2011 in New York. He will also attend some of the UN General Assembly events. On 20 September, 2011, Mr. Tiéga will sign an MOU with the Executive Secretary of CBD and 22 heads of other organizations. This MOU is between international agencies and organizations and the Secretariat of CBD on the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the achievement of 2020 Aichi Biodiversity Targets. Tobias Salathé, Senior Advisor for Europe, is visiting several Ramsar Site managers in Slovakia and Hungary, 20-27 March 2011, including the RS Orava river and floodplain wetlands, Demanovska and Baradla caves (transboundary with Aggtelek) and Kis-Balaton, contributing to a transnational project of the environmental NGO the Ciconia Foundation and participating in the seminar on "Sustainability aspects of water management and the role of water in development" organised by the Central European University and the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budapest on 24 March.
