Our comic strip for WWD.....and more

14/01/2010
Greetings Everyone :

It's the 14th of January, only 19 days until World Wetlands Day, and I hope this email finds you already well advanced in your preparations.. We have received many emails about exciting plans - from a national forum bringing together stakeholders from many government sectors to explore the theme Wetlands and Your Life organized by the Centre for African Wetlands in Ghana, to a marathon traditional dance event organized by the local government of Moorea-Maiao in French Polynesia, to the Candaba Wetlands Center Design Competition organized by the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands in collaboration with an Architectural Students Association of the Philippines-Diliman….and there are many more like these!

At the Secretariat our staff will be very active: our Secretary General, and other Ramsar staff will be assisting in many diverse activities during the international World Wetlands Week in the Seychelles, a staff member will attend a WWD celebration at the Humedales del Ozama Ramsar Site in the Dominican Republic organized by the Ramsar Administrative Authority; some staff at the Secretariat will be enlightening our IUCN colleagues in Gland about WWD at a coffee break on the 27th February; a staff member will take part in a WWD media event being organized in Geneva on the 2nd; several of us will take part in an all-day series of activities on 2 February involving Ramsar Site managers, local authorities, Swiss NGOs, and a group of local schools, and this will take place at Switzerland's largest Ramsar Site, on the southern shores of lake Neuchâtel………..so we plan to be busy!

Finally, we are pleased to share with you our WWD comic strip - our apologies for the rather late appearance of this! It has been arranged through the Fundación Proteger in Argentina working with the artist Pattie who has produced our comic strips in previous years. You can download the English version here http://www.ramsar.org/pictures_2009/wwd/WWD2010-comic-e.jpg and we have a version where you can add your own text http://www.ramsar.org/pictures_2009/wwd/WWD2010-comic-notext.jpg. And really finally, have a look at Proteger's excellent web page on WWD here http://www.proteger.org.ar/doc894.html..

And please note, if these URLs appear not to work, just look for 'double dots' within the URL and delete one of them!

With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
